Places to Visit in Rameswaram

Sri Ramanatha Swamy Temple- This Temple is known for its vibrant and colorful interior and this is one among the few temples in the history of India which was built in Dravidian architecture style. This temple is famous for its Lingas which are made up of Salt, sand and other elements. The temple gets crowded during the Maha shivaratri festival. The temple is open all day and can be visited during 5am to 1 pm and 3 to 9pm.

Dhanushkodi Beach

Dhanushkodi beach is situated in the southern part of Rameswaram and it is bordered by Bay of Bengal on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other side. Dhanushkodi is a famous tourist spot in Rameswaram and it is known for its famous beach. Once Dhanushkodi was hit by cyclone and it was destroyed much yet it was considered as a ghost town and so the place is uninhabited. The lost land slowly gained tourist attraction and lately people started visiting the place knowing the history behind.

Water Bird Sanctuary

Rameswaram is not just known for temples and holy places this place also holds one favorite spot for nature lover and that is the water bird sanctuary which every visitors should explore. It is a home for a lot of native as well as migratory birds where the sanctuary is located in Ramanathapuram district and it is one of the most known places to visit during the trip to Rameswaram. The best time to visit is from October to January as all the migratory birds fly down. The sanctuary is open all day and can be visited during 7 am to 6pm.

Annai Indira Gandhi Road Bridge

Annai Indira Gandhi Bridge is also known as Pamban Bridge where this place connects Rameswaram Island and the Indian Mainland where the lane road besides the bridge gives a clear view of the railway bridge which gives way to the ship that passes the mainland. The bridge contains 143 pillars where each of which it is 220 feet long and it would weight about 100 tonnes. This bridge is known as longest bridge in the southern India yet still the most dangerous one. The bridge is open all day round the clock.

Kalam National Memorial

Kalam National park was built to honor the great Indian Leader and a well- known scientist Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam where the person is well known for its calmness and simplicity and the place attracts the tourists. This memorial has a large impressive collections of his missiles and many information about the personality and his rockets. The place is a blend of Indian and Mughal architecture. The main attraction is the entrance door which is inspired from India Gate and the door of Chettinad and the main dome resembles the one in Rashtrapati Bhavan. It is open all day from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Agnitheertham

The Agnitheertham is one of the most known and important place in Rameswaram where large number of tourists visit each day and it is located in the beach side of the famous temple Sir Ramanathaswamy temple. In Sanskrit the word Agni means Fire and the word Theertham means Holy water. To take a bath in this holy water during full moon and new moon is considered to be very auspicious and this place is the famous and known much among tourists.
